The European automotive market continues to suffer: the apparent increase of 255% over April 2020, in fact, is strongly conditioned by an unequal comparison with a period of severe recession caused by the pandemic paralysis.
Going into detail, according to the latest data published by UNRAE, the National Union of Foreign Motor Vehicle Representatives, total registrations in the European Union were 862,226 with a marked decrease of 22.7% compared to the corresponding month of 2019 pre-Covid (1,303,787).
As regards the situation of the major European markets, the April trend remains markedly upward for all five countries: + 3,276.8% in Italy, + 3,176.6% in the United Kingdom, + 1,787.9% in Spain, + 568.8% in France and + 90.0% in Germany.
Once again, therefore, Italy is at the top of the ranking and is the market with the highest number of new registrations: from 4,295 units sold in April 2020, in the midst of the first phase of the health emergency, it rose to 145,033 cars in the past month.
On the fuel side, however, in the fourth month of 2021, the statistics show new positive signs for all types: petrol vehicles (31.9% of the total market), diesel cars (22.8%), hybrids ( 28.7%), plug-in models (4.6%), LPG (6.5%), electric (3.3%) and methane (2.2%) models.
Lastly, among the big names in the automotive sector, the Stellantis group (FCA + Psa) is reconfirmed as the manufacturer with the best performance on the European market, with 202,327 sold in the last month and a massive increase of + 330.0% compared to April of 2020. On the other hand, in terms of number of registrations, the Volkswagen Group stands out, with 232,188 cars sold (+ 195.0%).
On the lower steps of the podium follow Renault (79,149) and Hyundai (64,978), which respectively mark a percentage change of + 184.5% and + 266.2%.
