Environmental sustainability: architecture turns green with expanded metal

Expanded metal is one of the most environmentally sustainable products on the market. From industrial to architectural applications, its use is highly appreciated for its low environmental impact. This proves to be significant throughout the entire life cycle of the product, starting from its creation until its disposal.

Find out more about the environmental sustainability of expanded metal.

Why expanded metal is eco-sustainable

According to its name, expanded metal is obtained by expanding, therefore stretching, raw materials up to 5 times. These include: stainless steel, aluminum, mild steel, copper, brass, bronze. The transformation of raw material into a finished product is a cold process. Mechanical energy and cutting blades are in fact used without welding. In other words, expanded metal does not produce waste, because there are no drilling operations and it can be largely recycled, so as to be used again in the production process. In addition, its processing reduces the carbon footprint and contains environmental damage. This is why expanded metal is such a green product, increasingly popular especially in the architectural field.

In architecture, expanded metal offers savings in terms of materials and costs for us and our customers, who choose this product for their projects. Thanks to its open area, a sunshade or façade made with expanded metal, with a decorative or aesthetic function as a second skin, can significantly reduce heat loss, while guaranteeing the necessary penetration of sunlight in order to reduce heating costs.

In other words, expanded metal improves the quality of life and makes it more sustainable, balancing the relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces. It also ensures efficient management of heating, cooling and lighting.

Expanded metal: environmental sustainability goes beyond the product

Being the only manufacturer in Europe of both expanded metal and wire mesh has pushed us to commit ourselves more and more towards the environment. Manufacturing an environmentally friendly product, such as expanded metal, does not automatically make you an eco-friendly company. Setting your core business on an eco-product is certainly an excellent point in terms of eco-sustainability, but this is not enough. The company is called to do more, from regulatory compliance to environmental certifications, from the use of renewable energy sources to the adoption of green behaviours.

Environmental sustainability in the company

Inside our company in Cormano, near Milan, our production has always been green. In fact, we work in compliance with the strictest regulations currently in force. Our industrial processes do not pollute the environment. We use recyclable materials and cold working processes, with low emissions. Furthermore, in line with our long-term vision, we are also adopting a green approach in our daily habits and behaviours. For example, we use renewable energy from solar panels, and we have reduced energy consumption through LED lighting and the gradual digitization of some operational functions.

Find out how this vision takes shape through our projects, installed all over the world.
