According to the data published by Unrae, the National Union of Foreign Motor Vehicle Representatives, in January 2021 registrations of new cars were 134,001, with a negative variation of 14% compared to the same month of the previous year (155,867).

Therefore, even the automotive sector does not seem to have been spared from the negative impacts of the health emergency by Covid-19. In particular, on the fuel front, the month of January saw the loss of 33.3% of petrol vehicles, 33.4% of methane cars, 31.1% of diesel ones and 15% of LPG.

Instead, the boom in electrified cars continues with a triple-digit increase for hybrid and plug-in (+127.6 and +179.6), but also with + 28.2% for zero-emission models.

According to the estimates of Michele Crisci, president of Unrae, the automotive market in 2021 will record a positive trend of 12% compared to 2020 (1,550,000 registrations).

As for the rest of Europe, new registrations in January in EU countries were 726,491, which refers to -24% compared to the same period last year.

Sweden is the only nation to have registered a plus sign (+ 22.5%), while Germany holds the record for the number of new registrations (169,754 in January).
